Mr. George Dana Millar Jr.

George Dana Millar Jr., 86, of Conway died Saturday, June 28, 2014. He was born November 27, 1927 in Little Rock, AR to the late George D. Millar and Minta Bond Millar of Searcy, AR. He was a long time resident of Little Rock where he was the Executive Director of the Little Rock Housing Authority during Little Rock's extensive program of Urban Renewal; the Director of Little Rock Fifty for the Future; the manager of the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce; the Executive Director of Little Rock Metrocentre; the Project Manager of the Little Rock Statehouse Convention Center Development; a real estate broker and developer. He was a board member of the Central Arkansas Planning and Development District; and a member of the Little Rock School District Facilities Study Committee. He was a life member of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, serving as President of the Southwest Regional Council of NAHRO and as a member of the National NAHRO Board of Governors. He served as president, board member and newsletter editor of the Fiftieth Anniversary Model A Club. He was a member of the Faulkner County Museum organization committee. He was a graduate of Searcy High School and Hendrix College where he was a past member of the Alumni Association Board of Governors. A lifelong Methodist, he was a member of FUMC in Little Rock where he served as Chairman of the Board of Stewards; Chairman of the Finance committee, Chairman of the Commission on Education and a member of the Building Committee. In recent years, he was a member of FUMC, Conway where he was active in raising funds for a building program. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Caralou Ligon Millar; a son, Mike Millar and his wife, Karen of Searcy, AR; a daughter, Dana Millar of Maumelle, AR; a grandson, Lindsey Millar, his wife, Caroline, and their son, August James, all of Little Rock, AR.
