Murvel Lee Cottrell

Murvel Lee Cottrell, age 57, of Glenwood, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.

He was born in Stratford, Oklahoma on October 4, 1964, the son of Sammy Cottrell and Helen Elaine Hinkle Cottrell.  He was preceded in death by his sweet mother, Helen Elaine Cottrell (the one and only Granny) on December 2, 2016; and his two brothers, Johnny Lynn Cottrell in 1972 and Keith Wayne Cottrell in 2006.

Murvel was a member of Trinity Holiness Church.  He loved to work with his hands and learned mechanics from his Papa Sammy as a child and this soon became one of his hobbies, well… that and talking on the phone. He began working in a sawmill at a very early age, and soon learned that he was a truck driver at heart. Murvel was a trucker for over thirty-five years and was better known as M&M.  Let’s just say, “He could back that 53’ trailer anywhere on the first try” and loved to prove it.  He loved his entire family! Let’s be honest, you got those phone calls, you know who you are. Family wasn’t just blood, he loved people and will be missed by many forever!

Murvel is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Murvel Dewayne and Michelle Cottrell of Hickory, Kentucky and Andrew Thomas and Jonna Cottrell of Lone Oak, Kentucky; nine grandchildren, Dathan, Landen, Kara, Jaron, Hayden, Austin, Easton, Payson, and Zoe; his father, Bro. Sammy Cottrell and his wife, Kathy, of Glenwood; one sister, Tammy Elaine Cottrell Burnett and her husband, Aaron, of Lone Oak, Kentucky; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tharold Gene and Gretchen Cottrell and Tony Lynn and Heather Cottrell, all of Salem; his sister-in-law, Diana Taylor and her husband, Joey, of Seymour, Missouri; the mother of his children, Andrea Cottrell of Cunningham, Kentucky; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
