Listen to Obituary

Nanetta Russell Goens, 87, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on October 21, 1938, in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Wanda and Fred Russell. Nan dedicated her life to her faith, family and community.

Nan married Donald Goens Jr, in 1957, and together they raised three daughters, Donetta Fondren (Ronnie), Paula Caruthers (Scott), and Kari Arneson (Scott). They spent years enjoying their lake house on Greers Ferry, a gathering place for family and friends celebrating numerous birthdays and holidays. Days were spent playing on the water and lazing in the sun. Nights were filled with delicious meals, her famous desserts and much laughter. She worked as a Florist, inspiring people with her joy and talent for arranging flowers for special occasions.

She was known for her baking, birdwatching and jigsaw puzzles, and loved filling Christmas shoeboxes for children in need around the world while sharing God’s word. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.

Nan will be remembered for her unwavering love, generous spirit, and strength through life's challenges. She touched countless lives and leaves behind a legacy of compassion and devotion. Whether she was cheering from the sidelines at ball games, recitals, plays or welcoming family and friends with a warm meal, she made everyone feel welcome and loved.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Nan was preceded in death by her beloved father, mother, sister, and husband.

She was Nana to her grandchildren Chasity Thomas (Justin), Ashley Jones (Jon), Mallory Mullins (Justin), Makinly Arneson (Alexandra). Great grandchildren Austin Thomas (Jacque), Tanner Thomas (Mae) Hannah Thomas, Brooklyn Jones, Jon David Jones, Layla Mullins, Lucille Mullins and great-great grandkids Brylin Thomas, Emmy Kaye Thomas, Benjamin Suarez and Rudy Jeanne Thomas.

She is also survived by her dear brother-in-law Bill Goens (Debbie) and her many special nieces and nephews.
