Nettie Beene

Nettie Beene, a long time resident and successful business woman of Arkadelphia, passed away in the early morning hours of June 23, 2009 in Petaluma, California. She was 93 years old and had been retired for approximately two years.

Nettie Beene began her extraordinary cosmetology career in her mid 20's and spent the next 68 years as a successful beautician, beauty school and college owner and instructor and owner of her own beauty salon and Merle Norman cosmetics studio in Arkadelphia. She loved people, her students and was totally devoted to her business as well as her family.

Nettie was born September 8th 1915 near Delight, Arkansas and was the daughter of E.L. Presley and Dora Frazier Presley. She was married to the late Thurman S. Beene of Curtis and had been a resident of Arkadelphia and Hot Springs for most of her adult life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Arkadelphia and was a devoted wife, loving mother and proud grandmother. Nettie is survived by her loving son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, Jerry, Mary and Allison Beene of California.


Funeral services for family, neighbors and friends are planned at Rest Haven Cemetery, 10:00 a.m. Monday June 29th, with a viewing Sunday evening between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. at the Ruggles-Wilcox funeral home prior to the Monday cemetery ceremony.
