Nila Jo McPherson, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and treasured friend, passed away on August 18, 2024 at Baptist Medical Center. Born on November 15, 1953, in Texarkana, Texas, Nila brought joy and light into the lives of everyone she met.
Throughout her life, Nila was known for her adventurous spirit, which was reflected in her career as a truck driver. She loved to take drives and keep the roads hot, making this profession a perfect match for her passion. Beyond her work, Nila cherished her time in nature, enjoying activities such as gardening, fishing, camping, and taking expansive drives without a specific destination in sight. Her love for animals encompassed all creatures, including coyotes and possums, showcasing her kind-hearted nature.
Nila was not only a dedicated worker but also a devoted family member. She adored her children and grandchildren, with fond memories of family gatherings, particularly during the Christmas season. Nila's excitement for the holidays was evident in her elaborate decorations and impressive culinary skills; one year, she famously stayed up all night preparing over 20 desserts for her loved ones.
A compassionate soul, Nila always made time to help others in any way possible. Her caring personality left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know her. She thrived on connections, whether at home or while exploring treasures at Goodwill, where she enjoyed hunting for special bargains.
Nila's immediate family includes her loving husband of 33 years, Hollis McPherson of Benton, Arkansas, her daughter Jodie Flinn Dyer and son-in-law Josh of East End, Arkansas, and step-children Phillip McPherson and Tracy Taylor. Her legacy continues with her grandchildren: Christopher McPherson, Matthew Dyer, Shea Bain and husband Jonathan, Timothy Price, and Carl Carnley and wife Elizabeth. Nila was also a proud great-grandmother to Abby Green, Spencer Green, Maddie Price, Lelia Carnley, and Jordyn Price. She is survived by her sisters, Belva Daniel and husband Joe of Ashdown, Arkansas, and Linda Schneider of Fouke, Arkansas; her brother, Don Westmoreland and wife Jan of Texarkana, Texas; along with a host of family members and friends who will forever miss her presence.
Nila was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Carnley; her grandson, Patrick Price; her parents, Jodie and Lillian (Westmoreland) Fielding; and her siblings, Jerry Fielding, Alma Hensley, and Ardell Fielding.
