Nina Sue Bean Johns, age 83, of Amity, went to her heavenly home surrounded by family on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

She was born on November 22, 1942, in Amity. She was the daughter of Johnnie “Red” Bean and Roxie Lillie Garner Bean. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Grady “Toots” Bean, Alton Bean, Johnnie Bean II, Curt Bean, Buddy Bean, Jean Harding, and Reba Pennington; and her beloved son, Grady “Bruce” Johns.

Nina was a Christian in her faith and prioritized teaching God’s love to her family. She was an amazing cook, especially known for her chicken and dumplings, and served it to several celebrities at the Bean Company picnic. Nina wore many hats over the years. She worked as a beautician, owned Nina’s Cafe in Carthage with her husband, Garry, and for over 30 years she owned and operated the Amity Preschool and Daycare, proudly helping raise half of the community of Amity. Her favorite job was being a wife, mother, and grandma to her family. To know Nina was to love her, and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her loving husband, Garry Johns of Amity; her three children and their spouses, Tanya and Jeff Sandage of Amity, Trevor and Shanta Johns of Old Hickory, Tennessee, and Wes and Lori Johns of Amity; her eighteen grandchildren, Chris and Stacie Hartsfield, Ki and Kayla Hartsfield, Derik and Shauna Sandage, Daysha and Nathan McAnally, BJ Johns, Noah and Mackenzie Johns, Tiffany and Hunter Martin, Kyle and Tristan Johns, Mark Johns, Ethan Johns, and Emily Johns; her fifteen great-grandchildren, Parker, Reagan, Brooke, Mason, Bryson, Remington, Garrett, Cohen, Harper, Sawyer, Ansley, Addy Grace, Addison, Kenslee, and Annalee; her daughter-in-law, Marcy Duren; her sister-in-law, Sue Bean of Mena; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Chris Hartsfield, Ki Hartsfield, Derik Sandage, BJ Johns, Noah Johns, Kyle Johns, Mark Johns, and Ethan Johns.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800 or to the Jones Cemetery Fund, 2579 Fendley Road, Amity.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Gentiva Hospice, Hailey Moore, and Samantha White for their loving care in the final moments.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 10:00 AM Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel- Glenwood with Bro. John McAnally officiating.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel- Glenwood.

Interment will be held at Jones Cemetery.
