Nita Sue Huskey

Nita "Sue" Huskey, 75, of Beebe, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Searcy, Arkansas, to Justin Wayne Wyatt and Olivia May Wyatt, Sue was the third of four daughters. She was raised in Sunnydale and attended White County Central School, where she formed friendships that lasted more than sixty years. Those lifelong friends continued gathering for their beloved "Catfish Fridays," sharing stories, laughter, and memories that never seemed to grow old. Those friendships became one of the greatest blessings of her life, but one friendship soon became the love story that would define it.

At sixteen years old, Sue met the love of her life, Harold Wayne "H.W." Huskey. Harold always said it was love at first sight, and anyone who watched them through fifty-seven years of marriage had little reason to doubt him. They were married on May 16, 1969, and together built a life rooted in faith, family, service, and an unwavering love for one another.

Sue devoted her career to nursing, education, and mentoring future nurses. She earned her LPN from St. Vincent's, her RN from Harding University, and her master's degree from the University of Central Arkansas. She served as a nurse, educator, and mentor before helping establish the nursing program at Arkansas State University-Beebe in 1990, where she influenced generations of future nurses.

To her family and friends, Sue wasn't simply a nurse. She was everyone's nurse. Whether sitting beside a hospital bed, explaining a diagnosis, driving someone to an appointment, praying with a friend, or answering a late-night phone call, caring for others wasn't just her profession. It was who she was.

Sue was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Beebe, where she taught Sunday School, led Bible studies, and faithfully served through numerous ministries. Her faith shaped every aspect of her life and was the foundation for the way she loved and served others.

Whether you knew her as Nurse Sue, Professor Huskey, Sunday School teacher, or simply a friend, she had a way of making people feel seen, cared for, and loved.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Harold Wayne "H.W." Huskey; her son, Brian Huskey and wife, Micha; her daughter, Melissa Leader and husband, Russell; Colby Pace, whom she loved as a granddaughter; her sisters, Margaret (Edwin) Capps, Marie (Gary) Landis, and Carol (Jon) Dean; and her cherished great-grandson, Casen, whose birth in 2022 brought Sue one of life's greatest joys, being called "Gran."

She was preceded in death by her parents, Justin Wayne Wyatt and Olivia May Wyatt.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association in Sue's memory https://www.alz.org/arkansas. Through her own journey with Alzheimer's disease, Sue continued to inspire those around her with quiet strength, grace, and unwavering faith. The family hopes these gifts will help bring hope to others facing the same journey.
