Nona Lou Beggs

Listen to Obituary

Nona Lou Beggs, age 72, of Sims, Arkansas, went to be with Jesus on October 27, 2025. She was born on August 8, 1952, in Mount Ida, Arkansas, to Ottis and Ellen Mae (Barber) Manley.

Nona was preceded in death by her parents, Ottis and Ellen Mae Manley; her husband of 55 years, Harry Beggs; and her brother, Sam Manley.

Loving survivors include her children, Barton Beggs, Jason Beggs, Sarah Hawthorn, Justus Beggs (Misty), and Israel Beggs; grandchildren, Kaitlin, Austin, Ian, Braydan, Alyssa, Alexis, Ally, Garrett, Sawyer, Scarlet, and Ty; great-grandchildren, Ava, Anya, Posey, and Zayden; siblings, Linda Beggs, Julie Tillery, Chriss Manley, and Audrey Hoffman; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

After raising five children, Nona attended Garland County Community College, where she earned an associate degree and became a Registered Nurse. She worked on the Cardiac Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital, now known as St. Vincent Hospital, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, until she retired.

She was devoted to her walk with Christ and was a faithful member of Faith Tabernacle Church. Nona began attending shortly after the church’s founding “in the woods,” as she fondly described it, and faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also a dedicated helper with the Faith Tabernacle Youth Nights, the annual Christmas program, and Vacation Bible School.

While her grandchildren and great-grandchildren lovingly called her “Granny,” that name extended to many others, including church youth and students at Mount Ida Schools, where she recently served as a foster grandparent. She found great joy in helping, teaching, and loving the children around her.

In her spare time, Nona enjoyed going to church, canning, attending auctions, beekeeping, gardening, quilting, and spending time with her family and her beloved beagle, Petunia.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at Faith Tabernacle Church in Mount Ida, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. Don Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow at Barber Cemetery in Sims.

Pallbearers will be Clint Beggs, Micaiah Beggs, Dale Tillery, Josh Manley, Jeff Gray, and Alyssa Gray.

Honorary pallbearers include the staff of Hospice Home Care of Hot Springs, Dr. Beck and the staff of Highlands Oncology Clinic, and the 2 East Cardiac Unit at St. Vincent Hospital.

The family also wanted to thank her granddaughter, Alyssa Gray, for caring for her granny in her final months.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Faith Tabernacle Children’s Ministry in honor of Nona Beggs. Nona and her grandson Sawyer helped start the Faith Tabernacle Youth Nights, a program that was part of the Children’s Ministry, and donations will continue to support that ministry.
