Norma P. Hill

Norma P. (Toni) Morris Hill was born August 18, 1921 in Little Rock, AR to Edd and Flora Morris. She was the second born of eleven children in the Morris family. She would tell us that she was so small when she was born (3 1/2 lbs.) that her mother carried her around in a shoe box and put her to bed in a dresser drawer. When she was five she was hit by a car after which she had to wear a special hat for a while to ensure she did not hit her head and re injure herself. The accident left her with a scar on the side of her head of which she was always self conscious.. Some of her happiest childhood memories she related were her train rides to spend the summer with her grandparents and cousins in Holiday, TN.

As a graduation present she took the train to San Francisco and spent some time with her dad's brother Vincent and his wife. She returned to AR where she worked with her sister, Anita (Morris) Croswell, in a detonator plant in Jacksonville after high school. Toni then went to Blytheville where she was employed as riveter to repair training planes, the AT-6 and BT-13.

Toni married Warren F. Hill on October 11, 1943, while he was home on leave from military service. She was a faithful military serviceman's and pastor's wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother as her husband's career took them to many faraway places from Australia to the Philippine Islands to Ankara Turkey. During which time Warren and Toni were blessed with three children, Becky, Roy and Hope.Toni nurtured their home and family in the Philippines when her husband Warren led in the establishment of the first Missionary Baptist Church on Luzon in 1954.. They were also stationed in Alexandria, LA, Yuma, AZ, Tampa, Fort Walton Beach and Panama City, FL. Through all their travels they always came 'home' to Pappy & Granny Morris's house on West 29th Street in LR, AR to maintain close contact and make memories with the extended family.

After his retirement from the military in 1968, they lived in Conway a few months until they bought their land on Slay Branch near Snowball AR and the Buffalo River. She loved to garden, read, and crochet many gifts to share with family and friends. During this time they became loving grandparents to seven grandchildren, Melanie, Jason, Brian, Dustin, Darren, Danny and David. Other than a short stay at Fox where he pastored Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Warren and Toni lived near Snowball until 1993 when they sold their place and moved to Hattieville, AR where she lived with her husband until his death in 2001. Four years later in 2005 Toni moved to Conway, to the Village of Seven Mornings which brought her closer to family and help when needed. She maintained her home there until the last few months of her life. Toni enjoyed the fellowship of her church family at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church while living in Conway.

During their later years eleven great grandchildren were added to the family, Morgan, Brian, Brock, Anna Grace,
Emma, Lily Beth, Caroline, Andrew, Luke, Dylan and Katelyn. The visits with these young children brought much sunshine into her life.

She passed away peacefully at the home of her son, Roy and Marla, on Sunday October 8, 2017. She was laid to rest next to Warren, her husband of 57 years, at Jackson Cemetery in Hartford, AR.
