George James McSweeney, 88, of Sherwood, Arkansas, born May 20, 1931, went to his heavenly rest on May 6, 2020. Mr. McSweeney is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Florence; his parents George and Yvonne Beauregard McSweeney and one infant brother.
He is survived by his children Kathleen Carpenter, Michael McSweeney, Anne McSweeney-Crabb (LeAllen), and David McSweeney (Sherri); grandchildren Trysten, Trey, Krista, Joshua, Amanda, Nicole, Alicia, Leslie, Greg, James, Allison, Matthew, and Michele; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; brother and sister-in-law Edward and Beverly Gingras.
He was honorably retired from the U.S. Air Force after 23 years of dedicated service. He worked in Mechanical and Building Maintenance Engineering for decades until retiring to enjoy traveling the US and other countries, Antique car rebuilding and shows, model aircraft building, gardening, learning about world history, culture, music and dancing. He was a Mason, a member, along with his wife, of the Good Sam’s Travel Club, Gold Wing Motorcycle Club, the local antique car club, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
He was the rock and pillar of his family. His absence from this world will only enrich the Kingdom of God. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those whose lives he touched.
Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 14 at Smith-Sherwood Funeral Home, (7700 Hwy 107, Sherwood). Private family services will be Friday with Interment in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. Please visit our website for Livestream service information.
