Ocala Dostall

Listen to Obituary

Ocala Brooks Dostall was born October 26, 1931 in Marietta, Georgia, to Arvie Rogers and Gordon C. Brooks. She left this earth on June 29, 2025 after a hard-fought battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Ocala is predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Fredrick (“Fritz”) Dostall, Sr., her parents, and her brother Don. She is survived by her sons: David (Trisha) Dostall of St. John, USVI, and Fritz (Wanda) Dostall, Jr. of Penn Yan, NY; her daughter, Cindy (Brett) McLeod of Buda, TX; four grandchildren: Kyle (Pam) McLeod of Buda, TX, Eric (Meg) McLeod of Houston, TX, Keith (Chloe) McLeod of Dallas, TX, and Kristen (Kenta) Okada of Honolulu, HI. Six great-grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews also brought her much joy.

A proud graduate of Marietta High School (class of 1948), Ocala worked for the Veterans Administration and married Fritz on August 22,1953. After residing at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, they spent several years in South Amherst, Ohio, before heading south to Georgia in 1965. In Marietta, Ocala enjoyed time with her old friends and volunteering at her children’s schools. She worked alongside Fritz in managing successful plumbing and homebuilding businesses. Ocala continued to make new friends with homeowners and neighbors, and she loved the vacations that she and Fritz spent at the beach in Destin, Florida.

Ocala was forever a “Georgia peach”, but a desire to be closer to grandchildren eventually took them to Hot Springs, Arkansas. Ocala embraced life in “the Village” and continued to make new friends with whom she enjoyed line-dancing, rug-hooking and volunteering, particularly at the Hot Springs Village Animal Shelter. We would like to thank the nurses, aides, and staff at Arkansas Hospice and Briarwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Little Rock for their devoted care during these last few months. Her family will have a private service at a later date. If you would like to make a memorial gift in Ocala’s memory, please consider the Hot Springs Village Animal Welfare League (hsvawl.org) or a charity of your choice.
