Occo Coffman Merritt

Occo Coffman Merritt, age 93 of Ennis, Texas formerly of Hopper, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017. She was born on January 18, 1924, in Hopper, the daughter of Gilford Harrison Coffman, Sr. and Dalure Avis Hollifield Coffman. On June 25, 1949 she was married to Joe Merrittt who preceded her in death on September 10, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Paul Coffman and Junior Coffman; and her daughter-in-law, Audrey Merritt. In her younger years, Occo was a school teacher and taught in the local area, and was also a homemaker, raising her family. She is survived by her son, Gary Merritt of Ennis, Texas; two daughters and one son-in-law, Marsha Merritt of Ennis, Texas, Mary and Rick Ferguson of LaVernia, Texas; three grandchildren, Tara Ferguson of Fernley, Nevada; Emily Ferguson and Alex Ferguson, both of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Dewey Coffman of Norman, Oklahoma; two sisters, Connie Wegert of San Antonio, Texas and Portia Short of Russellville; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 2, 2017, in the Hopper Church of Christ with Harold Vaughn officiating. Interment will be in the Hopper Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Alex Ferguson, Charles Coffman, P.D.
