Opal Phelps

Opal Pinson Phelps, of Little Rock, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Friday morning, March 31, 2006. Ms. Opal, as she was known to most, was born June 14, 1924 to the late Leroy and Isabell M. Pinson of Carlisle (Wattensaw). She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Phelps, her brother, G. A. Pinson and her sister, Maisel Pinson Lukowski.
Mrs. Phelps attended Central Baptist College, received her Bachelor's Degree from State Teachers College and her Master's Degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She retired from the Little Rock Public School System after teaching for 38 years, most of those years at Lee Elementary School. She was an avid Arkansas Razorback fan.
Mrs. Phelps was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church for over 25 years, participating in WMU, XYZ, CFO, and was a substitute Sunday School teacher. She was an active student of God's Word through the Community Bible Study, a member of Kappa Kappa Iota and the Little Rock Retired Teachers' Association.
Mrs. Phelps is survived by her son, Harry W. Phelps, II; her dear and beloved friend, Bill Smith and a host of family, friends and former students.
Visitation will be Sunday afternoon, April 2, 2006, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. in the Immanuel Baptist Church Chapel. Funeral services will be held in the Church Auditorium at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 3, 2006, conducted by Dr. Rex Horne. Burial will be in Hebron Cemetery (north of Carlisle), at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, conducted by Dr. Charles Barfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Missions Program of Immanuel Baptist Church, 501 N. Shackleford Rd., Little Rock, AR 72211.
