Paul Jean Mooser, 89, of Little Rock, passed away November 3, 2016 after a lengthy battle with dementia and back problems. Paul was the first of four children born to Paul and Frances Matthews Mooser. He graduated from Catholic High School.
Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty Mooser; children, Ralph Mooser (Karen) of Santa Maria, California, Gloria Bolton (Clay) and Shirley Brewster (Kent), both of Little Rock; brothers, Donald Mooser (Jane) of Searcy and Alvin Mooser of Portland, Oregon; sister, Laverne Belk of Little Rock; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Paul was a U.S. Air Force veteran. His first tour of duty (1945) was in the Philippines, working as a B29 aircraft mechanic. In 1947, he married the love of his life, Betty Hamling. He completed his second tour of duty in the Air Force in Houston during the Korean War.
Following his service, he dealt in auto sales and real estate sales until he took a leap of faith and created Mooser Realty Company, with his wife tending the office and keeping the books as the business grew. Paul self-taught himself the engineering of how to build houses, read geological terrain topography and developed several sub-divisions, all of this under the name of Value, Inc.
One of Paul's hobbies was flying airplanes, from his first private Luscombe and then flying with his friends' twin engine Beechcraft. He belonged to the Quiet Birdman Association at the Little Rock Airport. Paul also loved skin diving around the world, including Lake Ouachita, Belize and other islands in the Pacific. He enjoyed writing letters to government officials on ways to improve America. Following retirement at age 62 in 1991, he occupied his time gardening, fishing at Lake Ouachita and spending time with Betty and his dogs, Smokey and Max.
We want to thank all the people at Bob Shell Nursing Home and the Parkway Health Center for their loving care.
