Paul Gibson Shields

Paul G. Shields, age 93, passed away on November 26, 2024.

He was born on August 2, 1931, to Benjamin Joshua Shields and Alta Jane (Black) Shields in Norman, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen Jo Shields; his two brothers, Jewel Shields and Jasper Shields.

 He is survived by his two sons Dwight (Sharon) Shields of Vilonia, and Robert (Linda) Shields of Benton. His daughter Doris (Ken) Hastey of Mena. His brother Ben (Fay) Shields of Mount Ida. His grandchildren Shawn (Stephanie) Shields of Greenbrier, Katrinka Shields of Maumelle, Emily (Adrian) Williamson of Little Rock, Parker Shields of Kansas City, Kalen (Heather) Hastey of Prairie Grove, and Brooke (Matt) Robbins of Mena. His great-grandchildren Preston Shields, Norah Shields, and Nolan Hastey, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members & a host of wonderful friends. 

People remembered Paul for his friendliness and funny sayings, some referred to as "Paulisms." He never met a stranger, and when meeting someone for the first time, he could usually trace back someone he knew who was related to that person. He was always a helper. Helping friends and neighbors with mechanical or livestock issues and giving people food or money that he knew were having a hard time. He loved people. He counted ALL relatives as "kinfolk" all the way back to 10th cousins.

He served his country in the Air Force and while he did not finish high school or have any formal education, he instilled in his children the importance of faith and family, education, work ethic, honesty, and integrity.

The Pallbearers will be Shawn Shields, Parker Shields, Kalen Hastey, Matt Robbins, Adrian Williamson, and Rodney Walker. 

Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel- Glenwood with Bro. James "Cub" Black officiating.

Visitation will be held prior to services on Monday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.

 Interment will be at Murphy Cemetery.
