Perry Adkins "PR" Reed

Perry Adkins Reed, age 85, Cabot, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021 at his home.  PR was born July 20, 1936 in Ranger, Texas, son of the late Perry A. Reed, Sr. and Mary Louise (Chambers) Reed.  He grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana, and graduated from Fair Park High School in 1954 and married Beverly A. Godwin on August 10, 1956, and they moved to Magnolia, Arkansas where he worked for Unit Structures.  They relocated to Little Rock in 1965 and he worked for Schmelzer and Associates in sales, working his way up to an associate.  PR started his own company, Construction Sales Company, which he enjoyed for several years before becoming a partner with Universal Antenna Company (Unimesh) in Ward, Arkansas.  He remained with Universal until he retired in the mid 90's. His aptitude for sales was fueled by his gratification of sealing the deal.  He could research and strategize to be successful at the negotiation process, which could be perceived as him being stubborn and argumentative.  His mental sharpness, such as his ability to calculate square roots in his head, contributed to his ability to complete many projects.  PR worked hard all of his life but maintained a good balance with time with his family.  He instilled a strong work ethic in his children, ensuring that the work was done before the play.  Practical jokes and time together made the usual chores fun and have left lasting memories.   Following retirement, they moved to Romance, Arkansas where he enjoyed sitting on the porch, hosting family gatherings, and picking on the grandchildren.   He will be greatly missed by his family.

During his working years he was proud of the growth of Cabot, serving as President of the Chamber of Commerce during the tornado of 1976, and was active in the rebuilding of downtown Cabot.  He was a founding member of Rolling Hills Country Club where he served on the board for years, and was also very proud to be a founding member of the Bible Church of Cabot.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Bev Reed; children, Rene Busby (Lance) of Cabot, Shari Dugan (Pat) of Carthage, Missouri, Randy Reed (Tonja), Monica Gaunt (John), and David Reed (Whitney) all of Cabot; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
