Peter Sherrill

Peter Thomas Sherrill, Sr., of Little Rock, passed away January 31, 2019. He was born in New York City on July 13, 1935, and grew up there and in Jacksonville, Florida.

He was married to Martha Sherrill for 56 years, and they have three children, Peter Thomas Sherrill, Jr., Karen Elizabeth Sherrill, and Clifton William Sherrill and wife, Edith.

He appreciated the importance of education. As a Korean War veteran, he took advantage of the G.I. Bill and obtained Bachelor and Master Degrees from the University of Wisconsin. He went on to earn a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University and became a history professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock for over thirty years. In addition, he served on the School Board for the Little Rock Public Schools from 1979-1982.

Growing up in Florida, he developed a love for the water. He was an avid canoeist who not only conquered the rivers of Arkansas, but spent time canoeing the rivers in Canada and Alaska as well. He was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of owning a home on the Gulf, and enjoyed many sunsets and gin and tonics on the deck of his Florida beach house.
