Petra Dominguez Valdez, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026. Born on March 14, 1946, in Pecos, Texas, Petra's life was marked by devotion, laughter, and an unwavering spirit.
Petra dedicated over 25 years to Howard College, where she served as a facility manager before retiring. Her commitment and hard work were hallmarks of her career, reflecting the same steadfastness she carried throughout her life. Those who worked alongside her remember her not only for her professionalism but also for her warm personality and her great sense of humor, which touched many hearts.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence. She was a devoted member of Santa Rosa Catholic Church in Pecos, Texas, and later of Life of Faith Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. Petra found great comfort and joy in her prayer groups and was known for her giving heart, always ready to support others with kindness and compassion.
Family was at the core of Petra's pride and joy. She loved her family deeply and shared a close bond with her sisters and brothers. She is survived by her children, Ruben Valdez and Anna Clemmons (Larry); grandchildren, Isaiah Ozuna and Sarah Martinez (Brandon); and great-grandchildren, Peyton, Joseph, and Isabela. Petra also leaves behind her brothers, Victor Dominguez, Abel Dominguez, and Ruben Dominguez, Jr., as well as her sisters, Sandra Diaz and Arcelia Tarango. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ruben and Trinidad Dominguez; her brother, Armando Dominguez; and her sister, Norma Wentworth.
Beyond her family and faith, Petra's interests and hobbies brought color to her life. She enjoyed knitting, a craft through which she expressed her love-each grandchild was gifted a hand-knitted blanket that will be treasured forever. Petra had a distinctive love for fashion, always dressing beautifully and delighting in wearing "really, really nice shoes." Dancing was another joy she embraced, a delightful reflection of her lively spirit.
A visitation will be held on March 30, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Smith Little Rock Funeral Home (8801 Knoedl Ct., Little Rock, AR 72205). This will be followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will also be held at a later date in Pecos, Texas. Details to follow.
Petra Dominguez Valdez's life was a testament to love, faith, and resilience. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, generosity, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Though she has departed from this world, the warmth of her spirit and the depths of her heart remain enduring gifts to her family and friends. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.
