Polly Curtis Norrell, a life-long resident of North Little Rock, died Friday, May 26th, 2017. Born in Jackson, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late T.D. Doss and Elaine McCaslin Curtis.
Polly graduated from North Little Rock High School and afterwards attended North Little Rock Business School. She and her husband Leonard, the great love of her life, ran a successful auto parts store together, Jacksonville Auto Parts, while raising their two sons, Gordon and John. As busy as she was, Polly always made time for her volunteer work. She was honored by the Arkansas Business Women's Association of North Little Rock as their 1974 Woman of the Year and was the North Little Rock Woman's Club 1997 Woman of Achievement. She organized the very first Carousel Ball fundraiser, in addition to serving as president of the Salvation Army Auxillary, working tirelessly for that organization for many years. She also volunteered her time with the Arkansas Arts Center, and was Vice President of the Community Concerts of Greater Little Rock. She was a very active member of Park Hill Baptist Church.
Polly was a beautiful person inside and out. She lived life to the fullest. Whether throwing an elaborately themed dinner party for her friends or dancing the night away at a charity ball, Polly made every moment special. She loved her high-heeled shoes, sparkly clothing and oriental-inspired home decor. Her long-time friend Glenda Bailey McClain summed up Polly this way, "Everything she did was done to perfection."
Polly is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, her brother, Tom Curtis and his wife Kega. Survivors include her two sons, Gordon Curtis Norrell (Julie) of Eureka Springs, Arkansas and John Leonard Norrell (Loretta) ; a sister, Barbara Woodyear: four grandchildren, Michael John Norrell, Shauna Norrell Willett (Kyle) of Waco, Texas, Paul Gordon Norrell of Virginia, and Nelly Prescilla Norrell of Virginia; three great-grandchildren and her very special friend, Roy Sims.
