Ret. Sgt. Maj. Charles Nolan

Charles Joseph Nolan, born October 12, 1963, in Dermott, Arkansas passed away on May 24, 2025, at the age of 61, in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Joe lived a life marked by dedication, humor and deep love for his family and friends. With a sharp sense of humor and a playful spirit, Joe could always be counted on to bring levity to even the most challenging of times. A self-proclaimed "pretty man," he carried himself with confidence and polished looks that only added to his charm. You could find him each fall Saturday calling the hogs in his best Razorback jersey and a head of hair that would make you swear he just stepped out of the salon. Perhaps he will be most missed for his guidance and wisdom, as he was always called upon by his children and grandchildren in times of need. Though gone, his lesson to “always return something better than how you found it” and reminder to “say your prayers” will forever be etched in his family’s memory.

He proudly served his country with the Arkansas Army National Guard for 38 years retiring as a Sergeant Major after a distinguished career. During his service, he was deployed on peacekeeping missions to Bosnia in 1998 and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq in both 2003 and 2007. He was awarded numerous badges, ribbons and medals for his exemplary service. His commitment and loyalty extended beyond the uniform shaping him into a steady, dependable presence for all who knew him. After returning home and until his last day, he continued to work with his battle buddies at the Professional Education Center located at Camp Joseph T. Robinson. Despite battling health problems for the last four years, he never stopped working, with a motto that one must always strive to “improve the foxhole.”

Joe is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 26 years, Stacy Lee; their children Samantha Jo Nolan and fiance' Michael Wyatt of Sherwood, Jon Nicholas Nolan and wife Nikki of Conway and Savannah Sloane Moon and husband Marshall of Conway; his grandchildren John Connar, Kadence Maximas, BayLee Rose, Michael Sturgis, Lily Joyce, Josephine Luella, Rosalie Soul and Julian Marshall. He's also survived by his brothers Donavan Ray Nolan and niece, Mattie, Danny Holt, Daniel Edward, Michael Edward and wife, Shawn of Texas and sister Kelly Edward. He also leaves behind his mother in law, Bonnie McDaniel Lee of Jacksonville and lifelong father figure and mentor, John Connard and wife Nadine of Monticello as well as numerous other close aunts, cousins, coworkers, friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Don MacArthur Nolan, Linda Mae Engelkes and Tommy Edward; his paternal grandparents Jim and Ray Nolan of Dermott; his maternal grandparents Charles "Buddy" and Leatha Mae Engelkes of Conway and father in law, Jim Lee of Jacksonville.

Joe's presence, kindness and humor will be greatly missed but fondly remembered.
