Rev. Dr. Michael Dwight Flemons, affectionately known by many as “Flem-Flam” and “Gut”, transitioned on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the age of 72, after experiencing “life’s challenges”. He was born on September 26, 1952, in Dallas, Texas and lived in Prescott, Arkansas. Michael was a very astute, talented, and sensitive person. He will be missed by those who loved him.
Michael grew up in Dallas and graduated from Roosevelt High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pine Bluff (UAPB) and his Master of Social Work Degree from University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Later in life he received his Doctorate in Theology from Cyprus Bible Institute. He held various social work positions and also worked as an entrepreneur in the social work and health sciences fields.
He was preceded in death by his wife Debra Coates Flemons, his father, Rev. Daniel Flemons; his mother, Lela Lee; his Aunts Evelyn Walker, Irene Brooks and Annie Bell Tucker; and sisters, Audrey Denise Clinton, Diane Lynelle Washington, and Dannette Pearson; and his cousin Timothy Brooks.
Survivors include his former wife, M. Yolanda Nolan and their two sons and step-daughter, Gabraelle Gaither (Vann), Galen C. Flemons (Bianca) and Garrett L. Flemons; his daughter, Lakeisha Polk; grandchildren, Kristopher Flemons, Karter Flemons, Klaire Flemons, Micah Flemons, Anaya Flemons, Garrett Flemons II, Harmony Beal and Haylei Harpert; and his beloved cousin, Marsha Johnson. Siblings include Bernadine McGehee and Pamela Hopson, Aamil Muhammad, Ivan Flemons; step-brothers Frederick Lee, Robert Lee, Booker Faulkner, Larry Faulkner, and Richard Faulkner (d. 2025); step-sister Arnetha Crittenden; and nephews Cecil Clinton, Michael Clinton, and Clifton Washington. He was also survived by a large extended family, his fraternity brothers of Phi Beta Sigma, Inc. and sorority sisters of Zeta Phi Beta, Inc. along with a host of friends and his dearest friend Dr. Gloria J. Davis.
