R. Wayne Echols, 58 of Arkadelphia, died Friday, January 27, 2006 at his home. He was born October 4, 1947, at Arkadelphia, the son of Frances Benton Echols and the late Harold G. Echols.
He recently retired the Arkadelphia Human Development Center where he was a speech pathologist. He held public school positions at St. Louis, MO., Lonoke, Camden Fairview, and Smackover.
He attended the University of Arkansas, Ohio State University, Henderson State University, and Ouachita Baptist University. He also served in the U.S. Navy.
He sang in the choir of First Presbyterian Church of Little Rock for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia.
Survivors include his mother Frances Benton Echols and one brother William Echols both of Arkadelphia, two nieces, Wendy Gay of Celina, TX and Rebecca Bond of Stillwater, OK.
Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. Monday, January 30, in the Jones Cemetery in Amity, AR with Will Thompson and John Russ officiating under the direction of Ruggles-Wilcox funeral home. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be to First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia.
