Richard A. Ransom

Richard Allen “Rick” Ransom, 72 of Sherwood left this earth to be with our heavenly father on

January 20, 2024. Rick was born September 23, 1951 in Little Rock to the late P.J. and Helen

Ransom. Rick was a High School graduate of Jacksonville High School and went on to attend the

University of Arkansas at Little Rock where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Rick

met the love of his life Deborah “Debbie” and in 1978 they were married. Rick began a career

with the Arkansas Highway Department where he worked for 25 years, retiring as a Senior

Highway Inspector. Rick could not slow down, so he began a second career with Marlar

Engineering, where he continued work with them until 2019.

Rick was a devoted Husband, Father, and Pop. Rick loved the outdoors and following in his

father’s footsteps, he operated Ransom Game Bird Farm for many years. Rick was a very active

supporter of Quail Unlimited for many years, while being known around the state for the birds

he raised. One of Rick proudest accomplishments was his three grandsons and his greatest

treasure being his 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS.

His passing leaves behind an enormous empty space in the hearts of so many that were lucky

enough to know and love him, but his tremendous heart and infectious spirit will live forever in

us all. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Debbie, two daughters Ashley Parker (Ryan)

and Tiffany Darr (Michael), three grandsons Weston Abell, Wyatt Abell, Walker Abell, three

brothers Ray Ransom, George Ransom, Ron Ransom (Becky), four sisters Barbara Tomboli,

Debbie Herring, Charlene Frankson, Linda Ransom, and several nieces, nephews, and wonderful

friends. Rick is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers (David and Charles Ransom).
