Robert Allen Barnes

Robert passed away after falling at home on Tuesday, September 15. He will be greatly missed by his wife Marcia, his sons Zach (Kimberly) and Alex (Theresa), his granddaughters Harper and Sloane, his extended family, his numerous friends, and of course his dogs and cats. Robert was known for many things, including his easygoing nature, his passion for swimming and competing in the Senior Olympics, devoting his time to the Hays Senior Center and the wonderful people there, and his fashion choices, which could charitably be described as “bold.”

Robert loved to cook and would use any opportunity to prepare what he liked to describe as “mass quantities” of food for gatherings, whether it was barbecues at home, events at Hays, or a weekly breakfast during the many years he worked at Genesis Datacom.

Of all of his passions and interests, the greatest was his love for making trips to the mountains to ski and snowboard. He would preach the skiing gospel to anyone who would listen and took his family, friends, his sons’ friends, and his granddaughters to Colorado for over 40 years. This included two trips last year where he got back on a snowboard at 76 years old after beating cancer. We had never seen him happier. Robert spread joy to everyone around him and will be sorely missed.
