Robert Neil Claxton, age 80, passed peacefully surrounded by family on May 18, 2023 in Sherwood, AR. Robert, known as “Bobby or Bob” to his family and friends, was born in Cushman, AR.
He graduated Class of 59 Batesville HS and attended Arkansas College (Lyon) 1960-1962. He joined the Arkansas Air National Guard in 1963, working first as a Precision Camera Repairman at the 123rd Recon Tech Squadron, Adams Field. Activated 1968 to Japan in support of the 154th Tac Rec Sq for the USS Pueblo Crisis. He completed his military career at the 189th MXS at Little Rock AFB and retired in 2002 with 39 years of service at the rank of Master Sergeant. Bob was an expert marksman, shooting on the All Guard Team for Arkansas for many years and earned recognition as a President’s 100 twice. He was a life member of the Central Arkansas Gun Club.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Johnnie B Claxton, sons Alex L. Claxton and Robert L. (Nycole) Claxton. Grandchildren, Noah, Robert T , Connor, Dillion, Madison, and Rylee. Sisters, Jennie Claxton Miller and Jeanie Claxton, nieces, great neices and nephews, and a great great nephew. He was preceded in death by parents Coy L. & Iwana Claxton.
The memorial service is pending coordination. A separate graveside service at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Independence County on 15 July at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Pleasant Valley Cemetery PO Box 394 Cushman, AR 72526.
