Robert Foster Cloud, 89, of Alexander, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025. Born on February 27, 1936, in Sardis, Arkansas, Robert lived a full life grounded in love, hard work, and a deep devotion to his family and community.
Robert spent many years as a foreman at Alcoa, where he was known for his steady leadership and strong work ethic. He also served proudly in the Marine Reserves, reflecting his quiet sense of duty and love for his country.
A longtime member of Salem United Methodist Church, Robert remained active in his community and faithfully served for many years as President of Cameron Cemetery. He was known for his lively personality and the simple joys he loved most—cheering on the Arkansas Razorbacks, tending to his big vegetable garden, and spending time outdoors. Robert enjoyed trips to the deer woods, where he was often more interested in cooking at camp than hunting, and he treasured time on Lake Norrell surrounded by family. He also looked forward to visits to Oaklawn, where he enjoyed the penny slots and the excitement of the races.
Family meant everything to Robert. He cherished his daughters, Connie McLain, Suzanne (Ricky Lee) Melvin, and Stacey Smart, and he was incredibly proud of his grandchildren: Robert Lloyd, Ashley (Daniel) Jones, and Kasey (Diana) Smart. His joy only grew with his great-grandchildren—Mackenzie Long, Riley Long, Kelsey Long, Abigail Smart, Jackson Smart, Annie Smart, and Caroline Smart—and he was delighted to welcome his great-great-granddaughter, Jovie Henderson. The love he poured into his family will be remembered always.
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Polly Ann Cloud, as well as his parents, Herbert H. and Beatrice (Damron) Cloud; grandsons Bradley Lloyd and Ethan Smart; brothers Herbert “Bitsy” Cloud, Billy Cloud, and Jackie Cloud; and sisters Cora Ellen Davis and Nancy Louise Wilkerson.
Visitation will be held on December 5, 2025, from 1:00–2:00 PM at Salem United Methodist Church (1647 Salem Rd., Benton, AR 72019), followed by a Celebration of Life beginning at 2:00 PM.
Robert leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and faith. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
