Listen to Obituary

Robert “Doc” Boggs Holladay passed away peacefully at home on October 3, 2026. He was born November 16, 1942, in Borger, Texas, to Emma Joy Boggs and Askew Beverly Holladay.

After graduating from Duncan High School, he played football and earned his B.S. from Southeastern State University. He earned a Master of Education degree from East Central University, as well as an Administration Certificate from Oklahoma State University. Robert worked for 48 years in various schools as an educator, football coach, teacher, principal, and Superintendent of Schools.

Growing up, he loved the game of football. He played in high school and college, and he felt so fortunate that his chosen profession was also a labor of love. Winning the 1972 state championship at Purcell was a career high. He valued and enjoyed the relationships he had with his players, fellow coaches, and competitors.

As an administrator, he was proud of all the building projects he began and oversaw, in particular while he worked in Okeene, OK, and Western Yell County, Arkansas. He was a responsible leader in school finance, and years later it was a running joke that he was the administrator who got schools to use Microsoft Excel.

One of his fondest memories was coaching his son, Alex, during his junior and senior years in high school, and going undefeated in that senior year. He received immense joy from coaching, due to the impact he had on his players’ lives. Robert loved all his children, each one in their own way, and he treasured his 46-year marriage to Sherry, whom he considered his best friend and dance partner.

All of Robert’s children are immensely proud of their dad.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and sister Beverly (Dennis) O’Brien.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry; son Alex Holladay (married to Tina), daughter Jennifer Dishman (married to Craig), daughter Stephanie Holladay, daughter Paige Oldham (married to Joe), daughter Wendy Thompson (married to Chris), and daughter Mandy Fresneda (married to Ken).

Grandchildren: Ellie, Miriam and Violet Holladay; Emma and Lila Dishman; Jake Thomson; Grace (Chris) Osborn, Joseph (Chloe) Thompson; Jessie Webb, Emery Oldham; Mackenzie and Megan Fresneda

Great Grandchildren: Samuel and Aubrey Webb; Camari and Lucah Oldham.
