Robert Lane was born on October 5, 1934 in Monroe, Louisiana to Horace LeeRoy Lane and his wife Louise.

 Robert grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he graduated from C.E. Byrd High School. He then attended Centenary College in Shreveport. Later, he earned degrees at University of Missouri at Rolla, and also at Ohio State University. In October of 1955, he married JoAnn Debate Lane. They were married almost 60 years.

Robert had a stellar military career of 23 years, serving overseas in Vietnam, Germany, Thailand, and South Korea. Colonel Lane served as Battalion Commander of the 30th Engineer Battalion in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. His last military assignment was Director of Facilities Engineering at Fort Polk, Louisiana.Robert retired in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he then became Chief of Engineering and Public Works Director for the City of Little Rock. Later he served as Public Works Director for Pulaski County.Robert is preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law Sonny and Juanita Lane, and his wife JoAnn. 

He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Robert, Jr and Roxanne Lane of Natchitoches, Louisiana; son and daughter-in-law Douglas and Vicki Lane of Little Rock. Grandchildren: Andrew Lane of Little Rock, Hope Lane Wenneker and her husband Michael of Bentonville, Tara Lane Stone and her husband Jacob of Justin, Texas, Joseph Lane and his wife Jenny of Little Rock. Great grandchildren: Brielle Wenneker of Bentonville, Arya and Rhys Lane of Little Rock. Other survivors include his nephew John Lane (wife Debbie) and his niece Laura Keith (husband Rod). 

Robert was a devout United Methodist and a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
