Robert Retford, age 64, passed away on January 15, 2026, in a tragic accident.
Robert was born on July 28, 1961. He proudly served as a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, a commitment that shaped his discipline, strength, and lifelong sense of duty. His service to his country remained a defining part of who he was.
He later served in law enforcement, work that reflected his belief in protection, responsibility, and standing watch for others. While life did not always take an easy path, Robert remained deeply devoted to his family and the people he loved.
Robert lived independently and cherished the companionship of his dogs, who were a constant source of loyalty and comfort. He valued self-reliance, preparedness, and skill, and enjoyed training with firearms during much of his life. Those who knew him best remember him as strong-willed and hard-headed at times, but always rooted in conviction, protectiveness, and care.
A father of eight, Robert is survived by his children: Melissa Jarrett, Richard Retford, Katie Marlar, Sydney Hudson, Gunner Retford, Jordan Retford, Jayden Retford, and Landen Retford. He shared a particularly close bond with his son Richard Retford, with whom he remained in regular contact.
Robert was a devoted and loving grandfather, taking great pride in his family. He is survived by his grandchildren Samual Jarrett, Abbygail Jarrett, Emmalynn Jarrett, and Lilliana Jarrett; Isaiah Sorrells, Mason Sorrells, Layla Retford, Greyston Retford, and Declan Retford; and Wyatt Hudson and Parker Hudson.
He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Hannah Retford, along with extended family members and friends who will remember the many sides of the man he was.
In accordance with his wishes, Robert was cremated, and no formal service was held. A celebration of life with friends and family will take place at his son’s home at a later date.
Robert Retford will be remembered for his service to his country, his devotion to his family, and the strength with which he lived his life.
