Robert Troutman

Robert James (R. J.) Troutman, 84, of North Little Rock, AR. went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 5, 2008. R. J. was born on July 16, 1923 in Lollie, Arkansas to Frank and Della Troutman. R. J. was raised on the family farm until he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943. He served our country during WWII. He was stationed in England, Germany and France. R. J. was a member of a supply plane that flew supplies to our soldiers at the front lines and took the wounded back to England. He was wounded during the war but remained with the Air Corps as a cook. He attained the rank of 1st Corporal and was put in charge of the officer's mess. After the war ended, he remained in the Arkansas National Guard for several years as a cook.
R. J. also worked as a migrant farm worker following the wheat harvest in the Midwest. He helped build the original Interstate 30 through Little Rock, the I-30 - I-40 interchange and worked on part of I-40 toward Memphis. R. J. retired from Ft. Roots and worked as a cook and truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Arch, Ed, Joe, Oscar Lee, Johnny, Frank Jr, and sister Florine as well as former wives Geraldine and Elaine. He is survived by his wife Leta Gibby Troutman, sister Mattie Perry, children Beverly Turbeville, Becky Farner of Houston, Arkansas, Kathy Biue of Perryville and son Jerry Troutman of Traskwood. He also leaves a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
R. J. loved to talk with people and he knew everyone. He loved to tell stories and talk about his experiences and the people he had known over his lifetime. He had the ability to find a common ground with everybody he met to engage them in conversation.
R. J. and Leta attended the Troutman Chapel Assembly of God Church on Hwy 89 south of Mayflower, AR. His family donated the land and helped build the original Troutman Chapel.
Family visitation will be on Tuesday, April 8th from 6-8 pm at Huson Funeral Home, 7700 Hwy 107, Sherwood, AR. The service will be at Huson Funeral Home 10:00 am Wednesday, April 9th. Burial services will be at the Mayflower Cemetery with Brother Gary Hammer officiating.
