Robert "Bob" Lee Varnon, 76, of Benton, Arkansas passed away July 4, 2016. He was born May 1, 1940 in Commerce, Missouri to the late Roy Frazier and Anna Geraldine Nolan Varnon.
Bob Lee Varnon was raised on the banks of the Mississippi in Commerce Missouri. He attended grade school at Commerce High School in Scott City and received a scholarship to attend the University of Murray in Murray, Kentucky. He also attended Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Bob was a registered Radiological Technologist and was an administrator at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He also served as a member of the RI School Board District.
He moved to Benton in 1970 as a Sales Manager for Picker Medical Corporation. In 1977, he became a licensed Realtor and earned the GRI and CRS designations and was a Multi-Million Dollar Producer. He was voted best of the best in Saline county in 2006 as a realtor with Crye-Lieke Realtors in Benton.
Bob Lee served in the Fifth Army, Thirty-Fifth Division, 140th Infantry and trained as a combat medic for the Missouri National Guard. He has 6 years of service to his country.
Bob Lee has lived in Benton for 46 years. He is a past Board Member of the Boys and Girls Club of Saline County. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce as an Ambassador Committee member, coached Little League Baseball and Basketball, and was president of the Bryant Athletic Club. He was raised Baptist, but ordained as a nondenominational minister, was a Notary Public, and a substitute teacher in the Benton School District.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Cordrey Varnon; parents; and sister, Barbara Ann Varnon.
He leaves to cherish his memories three children, Terry Varnon and wife Hilda, Kim, and Chris Varnon and wife Susie; grandchildren, Tara Lee, Sydney, Taylor, Ashlyn, and Clifford; great-grandchildren, Gracie and Emberlyn; brother, Jerry Roy Varnon and wife Sandy; and many other family members and friends who will miss him always.
Reception visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday, July 8, 2016 at Smith-Benton Funeral Home, 322 N. Market St., Benton, Arkansas 72015.
