Ronald Layne Elkins

Ronald Layne Elkins, age 67, of Norman, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017. He was born on January 29, 1950 at DeQueen, the son of Rupert Richard Elkins and Gladys Lucille Pack Elkins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara Elkins; and his sister, Rosella Glascock. Ronald was employed by Centerpoint Energy and retired after 38 years of service. He was a member and retired minister of the Church of God International. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and collecting, especially antique radios. He had a great sense of humor and was generous and kind. He is survived his daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and David Dowden of Norman; his son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Jerri Martz of Avery, Texas; five grandchildren, Billy Wayne Martz, Meridith Martz, Cody Booth, Nicholas Crisp and Joshua Latham; eight great-grandchildren; his twin brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Brenda Elkins of Texarkana, Arkansas; his sisters and brother-in-law, Lola Herrington of Texarkana, Arkansas, Janice Foley of Washington, D.C., and Richie and Guy Stevens of Los Angeles, California; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, October 1, 2017, in the Liberty Cemetery with Pastor Charles Gross officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM before the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Billy Martz, Wayne Elkins, Billy Wayne Martz, Nicholas Crisp, David Dowden, Dale Elkins, Morris Herrington and Dell Herrington. Memorials may be made to the Liberty Cemetery Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
