Roxann Pamela Fagaly, lovingly known as Roxie, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, in Little Rock, Arkansas, at the age of 95.
Born Sachiyo Nagaishi on December 14, 1929, in Borneo, Dutch East Indies, she was the second to youngest of ten children. She lived in Japan through the trials of World War II and, in the years following, met the love of her life, Carlton Fagaly, while he was stationed at Yakota Air Force Base in Japan. They married in 1955 and soon after made their home in the United States. She became a naturalized citizen in 1960 and changed her name to Roxann Pamela Fagaly.
With Carlton’s passing in 1969, Roxie became a Gold Star wife and raised their son, Dean, as a single mother in Lakeland, Florida, where she built a life rooted in faith, strength, and compassion. She was a beloved employee at Publix Supermarkets for over 20 years, working in the corporate accounts payable department. In her later years, she moved to Maumelle, Arkansas, to be closer to family.
Roxie, also known as Bachan (Japanese for Grandmother), was known for her deep love of family, her wisdom, her warm smile, and a legendary cucumber salad. She had a green thumb and a passion for plants, took daily walks, loved to travel, and especially cherished time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was tenacious and resilient and everyone she walked through life with grew in strength and love. By faith she overcame fear, in loving she overcame loneliness, and through joy she overcame sadness.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Kumeo and Ishi Nagaishi, and her husband, Carlton Fagaly. She is survived by her sister Keiko; her son Dean Fagaly (Karen); her grandchildren Kristen Sides (Mylan), Scott Fagaly (Avery), Freya Fagaly, and Tiffany Fagaly; and her great-grandchildren Justin Sides (21), Evien Sides (7), Avalee Sides (6), Anders Fagaly (3), and Elliot Fagaly (1). Roxie had a close and loving bond with each of them, and her presence will be deeply missed.
A funeral service will be held at New Life Church (8000 North Crystal Hill Road, North Little Rock, AR) on August 8th at 2:00 PM. She will be laid to rest in Lakeland, Florida, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Roxie’s memory to CitiImpact’s Building Hope Initiative, supporting families who have lost their homes due to disaster—a cause close to her heart.
Roxie’s life was a beautiful testament to grace, resilience, and love. Her faith guided her steps, her laughter brightened every room, and her legacy will live on in all who knew her.
