Russell Gordan Atkinson, 81, of North Little Rock went to be with his Lord Monday, February 13, 2012. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Frank and Goldie Atkinson. He was a self-made man. He used his natural born sales ability to build a successful career in heat and air sales. In 1970 he founded Arkansas Air Inc. and ran it for 21 years, later passing it on to his sons. He was a proud member of Friendly Chapel Church. Pop Pop, as named by his grandchildren, always made sure you knew what he thought, loved golfing and spent many years as a marshal at Burns Park Golf Course. Russ enjoyed traveling the world with his beautiful bride of 58 years, Jane, and was happiest when worshiping and sharing about his Savior, Jesus Christ. Pop Pop was a true family man who will be deeply missed by ALL his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Atkinson; five children, Anita Gwatney, of Little Rock, Cathy Lamb and husband, Gary, of North Little Rock, Russell Atkinson Jr and wife, Peg, of Ward, Rick Atkinson and wife Gay, of Little Rock, and Michael Wright and wife Stacey, of Little Rock; 13 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Clara Dennison and husband George, and Sarah White and husband Charles; and a brother, Frank Atkinson. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jason Gwatney.
