Russell Lee Edwards

Russell Lee Edwards, 96, entered his heavenly home on July 8, 2025. He was born March 6, 1929, to Cecil and Elza Edwards in Damascus, Arkansas. He was a retired Captain of the Little Rock Fire Department, serving for 33 years.

Russell is survived by his daughter, Sharon Mitchell (Larry); his grandchildren, Lisa Reed (Wallace): Blake Mitchell (Haley); and Lauren Dougherty (Chris); great grandchildren, Barron and Ella Kate Reed; Landon and Davis Dougherty. Russell is also survived by one sister, Lou McKamey.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents and spouse of 69 years, Laverne Edwards. He and Laverne enjoyed years of RV traveling and acquired many friendships through Good Sam Clubs. He was also predeceased by his son, Don; siblings, Doyle Edwards, Linda Norris, and James Cooley.

He was a member of First NLR church where he and Laverne had been active members of the Challenger Sunday School class for many years. We appreciate the many friends of this group that provided love and support to both through the years.

The family would like to thank his in-home caregiver, Wanda, for taking such good care of him. We also want to thank the staff and residents of The Manor Benton, for providing a comfortable place to reside over the last two years.

A visitation will be held Monday, July 14 at 10:00 am, at Smith Family Funeral Home North Little Rock. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Arkansas Memorial Gardens.
