Sandra Jean Jones

Sandra Jean Jones, Sandy, Aunt Sandy, Momma, Granny Sandy. All of her names were too small to encompass the incredible woman that has been a blessing to those she came in contact with over her 87 years.

Born Sandra Jean to Gerald and Cleda Cuppy, in Iowa City, Iowa on September 1, 1938. She was the oldest of 6 children. Maynard Cuppy, Karen Mossman, and Barbara (Bobbie) Renshaw preceded her in death and she is survived by her sisters Sharon Mumme and Sue Moss.

On graduation from Burlington High School in 1956, she enrolled in Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, Oklahoma. There she joined the Gospel Team, a ministry choir that traveled for the college. While on the team, she met a good-looking young man, James Bryan Jones, from Harrison, AR. They were chosen to sing a duet together one Sunday evening and they sang together for the next, almost 65 years.

Sandy and Bryan were married in Burlington First Church of the Nazarene, her home church, on June 10, 1961. The adventure began in earnest soon after. Greg was born in March of 1962, and their ministry began 2 months later in Alma, AR. Gretchen entered their lives in July of 1963. The small family returned to Iowa and, eventual service to the Farmington, IA Church of the Nazarene and the Anson Community Church. Gayle joined the young family in June 1966. Two years later, the call was back to Arkansas at Hiwasse and the final piece of the family took shape in December 1970 with the birth of Gwen.

The ministry team of Bryan and Sandy had many stops along the way. Continuing to Greenbrier, Beebe, Pickens Chapel, Russellville, Springdale, Mt. Home, Paragould, and Hickory Plains, all were blessed by them. Sandy was always ready and willing to sing and play the piano or organ as needed. Anywhere the District Superintendent asked them to go, they went.

Sandy was not only a ministry partner and mother. She worked as a long-time legal secretary for Brazil and Roberts law firm and finished her career as secretary for Westbrook Funeral Home. She was, also, an accomplished seamstress. Her children always had the best Easter outfits and when her son needed a tuxedo for college performances in the music department, she made one. He wore it proudly for 5 years.

Sandy's joy was her children, their spouses, her grandchildren, their spouses, and her 5 great grandchildren. She was especially proud of their education. When she spoke of numerous bachelor’s degrees, 9 master’s degrees, and 4 Dr.s degrees her chest would swell and her eyes would light up.

Greg and Christine, Gretchen and Keith, Gayle and Mark, Gwen and Mark, and her bonus daughter Aimee and husband Chad were her pride and joy. She especially rejoiced in Leah and Hunter, Melissa and Sam, Megan and Jason, Jessica and Blake, Allie and Gus, Taylor, Mason, Bethany, Kathryn, Chloe and Aiden, her grand kids. Then, when the Greats came along, she got new wind in her sails. Bennett, Brewer, Rilyn, Henry, and Harper were loved dearly by Great Granny Sandy.

Sandy was called home in the early hours of Valentines Day, February 14, 2026, her favorite holiday, where she took her place in the Heavenly choir still singing for her Lord Jesus Christ. Sandy's legacy will be in music, clothes, secretarial skills? Certainly! But most of all in the love that she shared. The quality and the quantity of her relationships and her generosity of spirit add up to an extraordinary life well lived.

Visitation will be on Monday, February 16, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Smith Westbrook Funeral Home. Services are on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Beebe Church of The Nazarene, 104 Campground Rd, Beebe, AR 72012, with burial at Picken Chapel Cemetery in Letona at 2:30 p.m.
