Sara Oliver

Sara L. Oliver passed away on June 22, 2021, due to complications of diabetes.  She was born November 28, 1950, in Shreveport, LA to Virgil and Frances Oliver and grew up in Magnolia and West Memphis, Arkansas.  Sara was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Don Oliver of Little Rock.  Sara graduated from West Memphis High School before completing a degree in Education from the University of Central Arkansas and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She was also a member of Trinity United Methodist in Little Rock and loved her church family there.

Sara embodied the spirit of public service and spent most of her professional life in the field of community development and affordable housing.  She worked for the City of North Little Rock Community Development Department, was the CDBG & Housing Programs Manager for the City of Little Rock, and retired from the Arkansas Development Finance Authority as Vice-President of Housing.  However, retirement was only a word to Sara, as she immediately launched into a number of volunteer activities in the same field.  She volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and worked tirelessly for the Housing Arkansas organization.  She believed strongly that safe, decent and affordable housing was vital to the health and success of every person and the community in which they lived.  In addition to her work in the housing field, she also faithfully visited shut-ins others in need.  On her desk at home is the following verse from Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.

Equal to her passion for public service was her love of animals of all kinds, especially her beloved schnauzers.
