Scott Thomas Burdick of Hot Springs, Arkansas passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024, in his home, surrounded by loving family. After a courageous battle with Parkinsons, our Heavenly Father called him home and made his mind and body whole once again.
He was born on April 6, 1949, in San Jose, California. In elementary school, his family moved to Sacramento, California until his father was then transferred to Batesville, AR in March of his junior year in high school. He graduated from Batesville High School in 1967. Scott attended Arkansas State University- Jonesboro and Arkansas State University-Beebe where he would meet the love of his life, Carolyn James.
Scott and Carolyn were married on June 28, 1970, in Searcy, Arkansas. Scott worked for Carolyn’s father with L.E. Myers Company, putting electrical distribution lines all over the country. The young couple would live in Michigan and Delaware before calling Arkansas home. Scott had a career as a Life Insurance Agent for over 30 years. After retirement, he found fulfillment working for SCAT in Benton, providing compassionate support to the elderly and disadvantaged. His dedication to helping others was a defining characteristic of his life. In 2016, Scott fully retired due to his diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease.
Scott had a wide range of hobbies that reflected his love for life and family. He was fisherman, dove hunter, enjoyed racing pigeons, and had a knack for fixing anything that needed repair. He also had a passion for cultivating Japanese maple trees from seedlings. His daughters were the light of his life, and he enthusiastically coached their basketball teams and cheered them on in both basketball and volleyball. As a proud “Papaw,” Scott treasured time spent with his grandchildren, supporting their activities, teaching life lessons, and celebrating their achievements. He was especially blessed to meet his two great-grandchildren, both born in 2023.
Scott is preceded in death by his daughter, Sara, and his parents, Lester and LaVerne Burdick. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Carolyn; his two daughters Lisa Williamson and Susan (Brian) Bariola; his 5 grandchildren, Cameron (Sydnee) Wood, Carleigh (Cory) Mitchell, Hannah, Joseph and Jack Bariola; his two great-grandchildren, Vivian Wood and Waylon Mitchell; his loving sister and best friend, Nancy Burdick and many more relatives and friends.
