Today, as we gather together, we honor and remember the remarkable life of Shaniqua Andrea Hicks—affectionately known as Nika. We share this time as family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched, united by our love for Nika and our gratitude for the beautiful memories she gave us. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we seek comfort in recalling her vibrant spirit, her unwavering devotion, and the joy she brought into every room she entered.

Early Life and Family

Nika was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Stanley and Mary Hicks. As one of eight siblings, she grew up in a family surrounded by laughter, warmth, and the close companionship that comes with a large family.

She channeled her drive into athletics, playing basketball and running track throughout her youth. She graduation from J.A. Fair High School. Nika went on to attend Pulaski Tech, where she began her pursuit of a career in nursing—a reflection of her natural inclination to care for and uplift others.

At an early age, she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She began her faith journey at Bread of Heaven Church under the leadership of Bishop Damon Hill. She later became a member Everlasting Ministries under the direction of Pastor Reginald and Sharanda Willams.

Career Journey

Nika’s professional path led her into restaurant hospitality, where her dedication, work ethic, and her infectious personality quickly set her apart. Through hard work and perseverance, she rose through the ranks of management.

Devotion to Motherhood

In 2008, Nika embraced her most cherished role—mother to her beloved son, Simeon Aumarie Trotter. Motherhood transformed her world and Simeon became the center of her universe. Every smile, every achievement, and every moment spent with her son was a treasure she held close. Her devotion to Simeon was unwavering, and the bond they shared became a shining example of unconditional love. Through her unwavering support and gentle guidance, she nurtured Simeon’s dreams and gave him the confidence to reach for the stars. As her family grew, she extended that love to her granddaughter and even her grand fur baby, enriching their lives with laughter, guidance, and affection.

Health Challenges and Strength

In 2016, Nika faced one of her greatest battles when she was diagnosed with lupus and kidney failure. Despite the many challenges and hardships that followed, she faced her illness with extraordinary courage, resilience, and hope. Never one to let adversity define her, Nika continued to fight bravely, always putting her family first and living each day to the fullest, until her peaceful passing on May 18, 2026.

Personality and Lasting Impact

Those who knew Nika will never forget her vibrant personality. She had the rare ability to light up any room, to bring laughter and life to every gathering, and to remind us all how precious every moment truly is. Nika was the life of the party, the friend who could lift your spirits with a single smile, song or dance, and the family member who was always there to offer support, encouragement, or a kind word. Her warmth, generosity, and sense of humor have left an indelible mark on all of us.

Legacy and Cherished Memories

Nika leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unforgettable memories. She is survived by her cherished son, Simeon; Father: Stanley Hicks, Sr (Kelly), Mother: Mary J. Hicks; Sister Dana L Furlow (Vernell), sister Whitney C. Butler, sister Tina M. Hicks, brother Stanley Hicks, Jr (Dominique), sister Dora D. Hicks, brother Marcus N. Hicks (Kierra) and sister Shunna N, Hicks. her granddaughter, Oaklynn Marie and grand fur baby, Trouble; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews, and cousins.

She is preceeded in death by grandmothers Christine Miles and Dora Lee Thomas, aunts Rose M Bell, Louise Pringle, Gracie Marie and brother-in-law Brandon Butler.

Conclusion: A Celebration of Life

As we say goodbye to Nika, let us remember her not only with tears but with smiles, gratitude, and celebration. Let us honor her by living with the same enthusiasm, kindness, and courage that she demonstrated every day. Though her journey with us has ended, the love and light that Nika shared will live on in all who knew her.
