Celebrating the Life of
Sharon Denese Nemetz
July 3, 1957 – April 24, 2026
Sharon Denise Nemetz, 68, of Jacksonville, Arkansas, peacefully transitioned from this life on April 24, 2026, at Baptist Hospital in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Born on July 3, 1957, in Leland, Mississippi, Sharon was the beloved daughter of Benjamin Smith Jr. and Mary Lee Griffin-Smith. From a young age, she was taught the importance of faith, family, and perseverance—values she carried with her throughout her life and instilled in everyone she loved.
Sharon was a woman of strength, grace, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was a proud graduate who valued education deeply, always encouraging those around her to strive for better and do more. Her words carried weight, often speaking truth with love, and reminding her family that growth and improvement were always within reach. At the center of Sharon’s life was her loving husband, Donald Nemetz. Their bond was one built on love, laughter, and partnership. Sharon cherished her role as a wife and took great pride in caring for her home and the people in it. She had a nurturing spirit that made everyone feel welcomed, comforted, and cared for. Sharon had a true gift in the kitchen. Cooking was more than a hobby—it was her love language. Whether preparing meals for her husband or gathering loved ones around the table, she found joy in feeding both body and soul. She often joked that the way to her husband’s heart was through a good meal, and she proved that time and time again. In her leisure time, Sharon enjoyed watching her favorite cooking shows and horror movies, finding both excitement and relaxation in those moments. She also loved the outdoors, especially fishing and camping (as long as it was in an RV). Some of her fondest memories were made on fishing trips with her husband—he baiting the hook, and she proudly reeling in the catch. Those simple, meaningful moments brought her great happiness. Sharon will be remembered as a loving wife, a devoted family woman, and a nurturing presence who poured into others without hesitation. Her legacy is one of love, strength, wisdom, and the deep impact she made on those fortunate enough to know her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her parents, her devoted husband, Donald Nemetz; her daughter, Helen Gourgue; granddaughter, Somora Gourgue; her siblings, Carl Smith (Danyell), Benjamin Smith Jr.(Isis), Patricia Cunningham, and Darryl Smith (Patricia); along with a host of extended family members, loved ones, and dear friends.
Though she is no longer with us in body, Sharon’s love, lessons, and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Visitation will take place at Smith Sherwood Funeral Home on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
