Sherry Clawitter

On April 1, 2024, our sweet mother and sister, Sherry L. Clawitter passed peacefully at the age of 84. She was born October 7, 1939, to her parents, Lee David and Thelma Walls in Ferndale, Arkansas. Sherry has two younger sisters, Virginia Griffin (Tommy, deceased) from Florida and Mrs. Dana McWilliams (Kevin) from North Little Rock.

She married her high school sweetheart in 1957, right after graduating from Joe T. Robinson, and Irvin graduated from Central High. They started their family immediately after moving to Millington Navel Base in Tennessee, having their first baby boy, Terry in 1958 and then David in 1961. The family moved back to Arkansas. For a short time, Sherry was a homemaker but soon took a position with Southwestern Bell. She later retired, and Irvin retired from Teletype.

Sherry and Irvin enjoyed traveling. They also had many friends in the Lutheran Church. They ran with a group of couples they called the “six pack.” These six couples enjoyed cookouts, being together, laughing while sharing each other’s successes and times of grief. Irvin and Sherry lost their son, David, in 2006. Several of the husbands in the “six pack” passed away, including Sherry’s husband of 59 years passing in 2016.

Sherry continued her faithful membership at Grace Lutheran until her health began to fail. She then started new friendships at her assisted living facility. She enjoyed BSF International Bible Study, cross stitching, crocheting, and sewing. She also loved being with her friends and her family.

Sherry is survived by her oldest son, Terry, and her daughter-in-law Nancy; her two younger sisters, Mrs. Virginia Griffin, Mrs. Dana McWilliams, and her friends and extended family.

The family wishes to thank all the caregivers at Parkway Village and Baptist Hospice for the good care that Sherry received.

A visitation is scheduled at Grace Lutheran Church at Hillcrest and Kavanaugh on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM with service to follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at 1:00 PM at Roselawn Memorial Park.

She will be remembered for her smile, sweet disposition, and kindness. She will be missed by her family and friends.
