Shirley Spence Barger, 70, of Austin, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on May 31, 2009. She was retired from the Bank of Cabot. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Darrell Barger and her father, Oris Eugene Spence. She is survived by her mother, Arlene Ann Spence of Austin; her sister, Gale Sikes and husband, Doug Sikes; her daughter, Dayna Bandy and husband, Tom Bandy; granddaughter, Rebecca Bandy of Houston, Texas; her daughter, Lissa Russ and husband, David Russ of Austin; grandson, James Byard of Jonesboro; Mike Russ and great-grandson, Raleigh Russ of Sherwood; nephews, Bryan Sikes of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Jeff Sikes of Dallas, Texas and Roger Sikes of Overland Park, Kansas. Also, holding a place in Shirley's life and considered family, Mark Brynell and his sons, Christopher and Ryan.
Shirley was very courageous as she fought a lengthy battle with cancer. Mom will be greatly missed by those that knew her well, and she will always be remembered for her love of life, her sense of humor, her big heart, warm smile and her strong will to live.
Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Sylvania Presbyterian Church in Ward, with burial in Sylvania Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, we ask that memorials be made to the Sylvania Presbyterian Church, 2419 Hwy 321 North, Ward, AR 72176.
