Sophie Ann Bawiec Fraser, known to many as Soph, Sophmister, Sadia, Sophia Loriane, 84, of North Little Rock, completed her earthly journey Tuesday, June 17th, 2025. She was most commonly referred to as wife, sister, aunt, and cousin. But most importantly, called Mom and Busha, Polish for grandma. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in North Little Rock.
She was born in Marche, Arkansas, a small town Polish community back in those times, full of heritage and mostly relatives to Adam and Frances Bawiec, both deceased. She is preceded in death by her only grandson, Kevin Charles Birkhead, and the love of her life, Charles Henry Fraser.
She is survived by her brother, Eddie Bawiec (Donita “Jo”) of North Little Rock and their sons Rick (Dee) of Barling and Chris (Karen) Bawiec of Florida, her son, Ray Birkhead of North Little Rock, granddaughters Jessica Birkhead of North Little Rock and Nova Birkhead of Jacksonville, and daughter Jennifer Lynn Birkhead-Wisdom (Josh) of Jacksonville. There is a host of many different friends and family that we could list but there isn’t enough ink or bandwidth for that, but i will mention her best friend of 20+ years, Wanda Carmichael, special long time co-workers Ann Harkey, Rose Tabor, Ed and Mary Neil Hudnell, and honorary adopted sons, David Barker, John Peal, and Jason Mazzia.
Aside from her family, Sophie has her Office of Long Term Care family that gave her some of the best years working with several great groups of people that cared for her as much as she did them. When she wasn’t working, in her younger years, she enjoyed square dancing, sewing, macrame, painting, children's story writing, although never published. She was an avid lover of the Arkansas Razorbacks, watching Hallmark and EWTN, feeding the neighborhood birds, cats, squirrels, and maybe even a snake or 10 over the years, unknown to her.
Sophie was a wonderful person inside and out, with the prettiest smile, a lovable and caring heart; she may have only been 5’4”, but she made up for that in how much she cherished life, family, friends, and her faith. She will be missed by plenty of people, most especially by her family.
In honor of her loving the Arkansas Razorbacks, we would be so appreciative if those attending her visitation and/or funeral would dress casually wearing red, white, or Razorback attire. Donations can be made to your favorite dog rescue and shelters, as she was most definitely an animal lover.
