Stella Katherine Brewer Denton, 97, of North Little Rock, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 31, 2025. She was Born June 19, 1928, in Butlerville, AR to Jim and Lucy Toone.
Katherine worked as an administrative assistant at McKesson Drug Company in Little Rock and at Indian Hills Elementary School, from where she retired in 1989 after 18 years of service. She delighted in working with hard working teachers and being present with the precious children’s never-ending curiosity.
After losing her husband, C.L. Brewer, in 1986, Katherine chose to participate in the Park Hill Baptist Church Widow Support Group, which was near and dear to her heart. After retirement, she desired to be of service, so she joined the NLR Women’s Club. She served in a leadership role at both organizations.
Katherine had a huge interest in crafts of all kinds, always busy, actively learning about and making new creative craft items. Family and friends looked forward to receiving one of her beautiful beaded, handmade string art holiday cards. She exercised her interest in craft making by joining the Pulaski County Extension Homemaker’s Club, where she served as an enthusiastic member for many years.
In 2009, North Little Rock Mayor, Patrick Hays, inducted Katherine into the North Little Rock Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.
She had many hobbies, some of them were: raising a bountiful vegetables garden to share with neighbors; growing and tending to an abundance of flowers in her yard; training and spoiling each lucky dog she ever had; making others smile; baking and trying new recipes of all kinds.
Katherine always had a piece of cake, or a slice of pie, or a cookie along with a sweet tea or a coke to offer to each guest to enter her home.
Katherine had a glorious smile, love to laugh, and to pull harmless pranks on family and friends. It tickled her to no end to tell a new joke she had just learned.
Katherine loved the Lord. She was kind, friendly, a good neighbor, a great listener, a helper, a willing volunteer, a Razorback ball fan, and a loving mother, whose face lit up so brightly at the sight of her two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Weldon Toone and Willodean (Dean) Fisher; husband of 38 years, Charles L. (C.L.) Brewer; husband Bill E. Denton; and nephew Jimmy Wayne Toone.
Katherine is survived by her son, Steve (Kathy) Brewer; grandchildren Sarah (Devin) McCullough of Ward, Zachary (Alexandria) Brewer of Los Angeles, CA; Sister-in-law Christine Toone; as well as nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
The family wishes to thank the nurses, CNAs, and kitchen staff at Cabot’s Greystone Nursing Home for their compassionate care.
