Stella P. Mayberry

Stella P. Mayberry, age 78, of Amity, peacefully joined her husband, Jeff Davis Mayberry, Sr.; her son, Jeff Davis Mayberry, Jr. and her grandson, Nicholas Fagan on Thursday, May 23, 2013. She was born on May 13, 1935, at Saguache, Colorado, the daughter of Porfirio Ramos Armenta and Stephana Manchego Armenta. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeff Davis Mayberry, Sr. on March 15, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her son, Jeff Davis Mayberry, Jr.; her grandson, Nicholas Fagan; and her parents. While working as a waitress at the family cafe in Saguache, Colorado, Stella met and married the love of her life, Jeff Davis Mayberry on November 17, 1956. They soon left Saguache with nothing at all but one silver dollar in their pocket and moved to Hilton, Oklahoma, where Jeff worked on oil wells for several years. After leaving his work on the oil wells, they returned back to Saguache, Colorado, where they resided until they eventually moved to Arkansas, living in Mount Ida before moving to Amity, which soon became their final hometown. She worked for several years for the Area Agency on Aging. She enjoyed reading, beading and quilting. Stella dearly loved her family and friends and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Gail and Mike McColley of Lake Station, Indiana, Johnny and Carol Mayberry of Jacksonville, Florida, Wanda and Stephen Fagan of Amity, Bessie Shuffield and Aaron Thornton of Point Cedar and Karen Mayberry of Amity; ten grandchildren, Bonnita, Christopher, Arin, Michael, Ethan, Kimberly, Pam, LeAnn, Dylan and Codie; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Leo Armenta of Denver, Colorado; one sister, Pauline Galvez of La Jara, Colorado; her very special lifelong friend, Debbie Lynn; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 28, 2013, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Bro. John McAnally officiating. Visitation will be held Monday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Friendship Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Michael Fagan, Ethan Fagan, Dylan Mayberry, Codie Shuffield, Bonnita Mennenga, Arin McColley, Aaron Thornton and Derek Thornton. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
