Steve Brookings, 77, lost his brave battle with cancer on Tuesday, April 29th. Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Mickey and Melba and his brother Dale Brookings.
Steve never met a stranger. He loved his family, country and God.
Born in El Paso, Texas in 1947, Steve moved to Crossett when he was in the first grade. His parents owned a furniture store and Steve learned from a young age how to run a business. He took that family knowledge of the business world and attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello graduating with a degree in economics and business. He was also a member of the Phi Lambda Chi fraternity. Before graduating, Steve did a tour of duty with the Air Force in Thailand during the Vietnam War. Steve also was in the Air Force Guard and Reserves for twenty-one years. Steve’s favorite career started in 1980 as an insurance agent with Equitable Life. Steve later started his own agency and maintained relationships with many companies for over forty years. He was a member of the Central Arkansas Life Underwriters and received the industry’s LUTCF designation as well as the National Sales Achievement Award. Many insurance agents will remember Steve as their education instructor.
Although Steve dearly loved his family, he often teased “never get married and never have children” when he became exasperated with his teenage children.
Steve is survived by his wife of almost fifty-five years, Penny, his sons: Chris (Christi), Eric, and Austin (Carol), two grandchildren: Hannah (Ryan) Frizzell and Landon, two great grandchildren, Beau Steven and Hadleigh, two brothers: Ray (Signe) and Don and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral at 11:30 AM, Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow at the AR State Veterans Cemetery. Pallbearers include: Austin Brookings, Landon Brookings, Chris Brookings, Eric Brookings, Averie Summers and Jon Vaughn.
