Stuart Lee Prado

Stuart Lee Prado, 66, passed away after a lengthy illness on April 27, 2024. He was born in Norman, Oklahoma on March 30, 1958, the son of William Manuel Prado and Elizabeth Avery Prado. When he was 7 months old, the family moved to N. Little Rock and then Little Rock where he lived growing up. He graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1976, and from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts.
He spent 5 yrs. working in Fayetteville after graduation before moving to Seattle, WA in 1986. Stuart was a lifelong naturalist and multi-talented artist. In Seattle, he and a college friend who is a fellow artist started a landscape design and installation company. For decades, they created beautiful work throughout Seattle and the surrounding area. Stuart retired in June, 2021 and returned to Little Rock.
Stuart was an avid gardener and grew beautiful flowers and plants as well as organic herbs, fruit, and vegetables. 
Other lifetime interests included reading, music, traveling, bicycling, hiking, camping, cooking, and getting together with family and his many friends, all of whom dearly love him. He especially enjoyed reading science fiction, astrology, and studying art, art history, astronomy, anatomy, and history. He was an accomplished artist in drawing, ceramics, photography, oil pastels, and watercolor. He was preceded in death by his partner of many years, Penny Kimmel.
Stuart is survived by his parents, Dr. William & Elizabeth Prado; sister, Cheryl Prado Backhouse and husband, Tom; brother, Mark Prado and wife, Na; nephews Phillip Backhouse and Reid Backhouse; and nieces Angela Prado and Serena Prado.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2024 at Christ the King Catholic Church, with a rosary beforehand at 1:30 p.m. Arrangements are made by Smith Funeral Home of N. Little Rock, (501) 758-1170. Interment will follow at a later date in the family plot at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama. The family wants to thank the CARTI team for their loving and attentive care. Additional thanks to the UAMS medical team.
