It is with a broken heart that we announce the passing of our precious wife, mom, grandmother, Honey, sister, and aunt. Sue Burks Long passed away on July 25, 2017, in the ever present care of her family.
Sue was born in Pulaski County to parents, Jesse Lemuel (Lem) Burks and Vera Ruth Rogers Burks. She was proud to be one of twelve children born to her parents. She enjoyed a wonderful life being part of a fun, strong, loving, and large family.
She was a member of Benton's First Church of the Nazarene. She was retired from Fitness Unlimited and later retired as Business Manager of Birch Tree Communities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law, Floyd Long Sr.; mother-in-law, Hazel Long; an infant sister, Margie Ruth Burks; beloved sisters, Bonnie Burks Garner, Joyce Burks Gibson, Eva Burks Cox; brothers-in-law, John B. Garner, George O. Johnson, and John Fred Chunn, Sr.
Sue is survived by her dear husband of 60 years, Floyd "Sonny" Long. She is survived by the joy of her life, her loving children, Rick Long, Regina Long Bennett, and Rhonda Long Camp, all of Benton. Sue was blessed with loving in-laws that became sons and a daughter to her, Karen Beckwith Long, Tim Bennett, and Steve Camp; nine wonderful grandchildren, Rikki Long Walker, Genny Wilson Flores, Brooke Camp Kling, Jennifer Long Webb, Jesse Long, Vikki Wilson Wolf, Carrie Camp Thomas, Kyleigh Bennett, and last but by no means the least is Timmy Bennett; grandchildren-in-law, Jason Walker, Kyle Webb, Jeff Kling, Zack Thomas, Matt Wolf, and Laura Long; twelve great-grandchildren who enriched Sue's life in so many ways, Emma Beasley, Zane Long, Barrett Kling, Isaac Flores, Charlotte Wolf, Hoytt Thomas, Savannah Long, Max Walker, Sheppard Kling, Caroline Webb, Sam Wolf and Luke Webb; her much beloved brothers and sisters, George Burks, Jesse Burks, Barbara Johnson, Martha Hilson, Kay Callahan, Betty Chunn, and her baby sister, Sheila Clark; sister-in-law Carla Burks; brothers-in-law, Dave Clark, Carl Hilson, James Callahan, and Olen Cox; her many nieces and nephews that she loved as much as they loved her. They were more like her very own children and she enjoyed each of them. Sue is also survived by dear friends Ish and Jody Kaniatobe and Glenda Pigue.
Serving as pallbearers are Phil Valez, Dan Stringer, Brandon Burks, George Burks, Bradley Burks, and Clint Hilson.
Reception visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday, July 28, 2017 at Smith-Benton Funeral Home, 322 N. Market St., Benton, Arkansas. Funeral service, officiated by Rev. Brady Lane, will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 29 at Benton First Church of the Nazarene, 1203 West Sevier Street, Benton. Interment will follow at Ten Mile Cemetery with Phil Valez, Dan Stringer, Brandon Burks, George Burks, Bradley Burks, and Clint Hilson assisting as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are her loving nephews.
Memorials may be made to Caldwell Elementary School.
