Susan Margaret Board

Listen to Obituary

On September 25, 2025, Susan Margaret Board (née Steeps) passed away peacefully and went home to be with the Lord.

Susan was born on April 16, 1954, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She often spoke of her sweet childhood memories, especially baking cookies with her mother at Christmastime—her favorite tradition.

In her younger years, her family moved around before eventually settling in Conway, Arkansas, in 1970, where Susan spent most of her life. There, she became a familiar and beloved figure in the community. Many remember her warm smile while she bagged groceries at Kroger, where she faithfully worked for more than 20 years. Others knew her through the several churches she attended over the years—always quick with a kind word and a heartfelt “God bless.”

Susan genuinely loved and followed Christ. For the last decade of her life, she was a devoted member of The Summit Church. She sang joyfully in the choir, greeted people warmly at the door, and worshiped with her whole heart. Even in her final days in the hospital, she spoke to medical staff about her church and excitedly told them about “our new building that will have more room for you.”

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jesse, and her parents, Lawrence and Aileen Steeps.

A private burial will take place, followed by a service to celebrate her life at Smith Family Funeral Home (1751 Dave Ward Dr, Conway, AR) on Wednesday at 11:00AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Fill the Rooms” campaign for The Summit Church, continuing Susan’s heart for making room for others to encounter Christ.

Susan’s life was a testimony of kindness, faith, and unwavering love for her Savior. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy lives on in the lives she touched.
