Sylvia Ann White, age 80, of Kirby, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018. She was born on August 8, 1937 in Big Spring, Texas, the daughter of Howard E. White and Sylvia Hawkins White. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Gene White, Harloe White, Bob White and Owen White; and one sister, Martha Walker. She was a member of the Kirby Church of Christ. She was also a United States Army veteran and served at the hospital facilities at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. It was there that she gained an interest in nursing. She continued her education and received her certification as a registered nurse. She was employed at the Pike County Memorial Hospital and later with the offices of Dr. Phillip White in Murfreesboro. She enjoyed working in her garden and loved being with her nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sister, Ilena White King of Kirby; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Forest "Shorty" White of Murfreesboro, Gilbert Wayne and Connie White of Statham, Georgia, Mary Lou White of Kirby and Lois White of Albany, New York; and all of her beloved nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, February 5, 2018, in the Kirby Church of Christ with Billy Golden and Buddy Ray officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be in Valley Grove Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
